This cute ABC book is set like a theatrical performance that covers letters A-Z. It stars with Adam who arrives in Amsterdam and ends with Zachary zigzagging in Zaandam. Each page has a specific picture with a boy king an activity that is described in the text. Each page has 4 words, and of those, 3 begin with the same letter. This book is a great way for kids to not only learn the alphabet, but also to explore different parts of the world. It covers the following cities: Amsterdam, Barcelona, Cracow, Detroit, Edinburgh, Florence, Giza, Hollywood, Innsbruck, Jerusalem, Kyoto, London, Moscow, New York, Odense, Paris, Quebec, Rio De Janeiro, Stockholm, Tulsa, Uxmal, Venice, Washington D.C., Xian, Yakutsk, and Zaandam.

This story is truly extraordinary because it talks about cities that even adults may not have heard of before. It exposes kids to diversity and ideas like tourism and immigration. Each page is exciting and contains so much rich information through the small 4 words and the illustrations. I would use this book to help my early elementary students develop language by learning and reviewing the ABC's. I would first read through the entire book and than do a small lesson on different people and cultures. I would love to talk about how there are many different people that live all over the world. I would also focus on the letter M because in it Michael travels to Moscow. Even though I am Ukrainian, I speak fluent Russian and would love to share some of my culture with my students. I would than use this book as an entryway to discuss culture in the classroom and have students bring something from home that symbolizes their culture. For older students I would have them write a letter to the boy in the story that has the first letter of his/her name and tell him about the favorite place that they traveled to.

This is honestly my favorite ABC book that I have seen yet. It is different and very educational. It not only helps students develop literacy, but it exposes them to the world through the pages. The only thing I did not like about it was the fact that every character is a boy. Even though it does address race by having boys of every ethnicity, it does not contain any girls. Other than that, it is an excellent book.
